55. Participation of persons with disabilities in political public life

(1) Every adult person with a disability is entitled to enjoy and exercise the right to vote, hold public office and participate in political and public life as any other citizen without any form of discrimination.

(2) A person with a disability has the right to participate in public administration, civil society, political parties, and other associations or organizations.

(3) A person with a disability has the right to fully participate and take part in decision-making processes.

Section 26 states:

Every citizen of The Gambia of full age and capacity shall have the right, without unreasonable restrictions:…

• (b) to vote and stand for elections at genuine periodic elections for public office, which elections shall be by universal and equal suffrage and be held by secret ballot.
