Political Participation of Women with Disabilities in Nepal: Barriers and Opportunities

In 2019, the Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) completed a research study to identify recommendations to improve access for women with disabilities to participate in political processes in Nepal. NDWA conducted focus group discussions and key informant interviews as well as desk research on the legal framework and existing publications on women’s rights and disability rights in Nepal. The resulting report, Political Participation of Women with Disabilities in Nepal: Barriers and Opportunities identified barriers to women with disabilities’ full and equal political participation and opportunities for collaborating with stakeholders to increase women with disabilities’ political representation.
