Apply for your National Identity Card

In 2019, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka (EC), with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), produced a series of voter education videos in Sri Lankan Sign Language to encourage Deaf voters to register to vote. This video provides information for young people with disabilities about how to obtain their National Identification Cards (NICs) to ensure they are able to exercise their voting rights. Narrator: Apply for your National Identity Card

Are you a young person between the ages of 15-18? Have you applied for your National Identity Card yet?

Any person who completes the age of 15 can apply for a NIC.

If you are a school student, you can apply for your National Identity Card through the Principal of your school before Ordinary Level examination.

If you are not in school, please go to your Grama Niladhari and obtain a form and follow instruction to apply for the ID.

Your National ID is the most trusted identification document that you need to possess. It is one of the valid identification documents to vote in an election.
