Electoral Lexicon in Sign Language

Updated: January 2016

In 2015, a team of Deaf leaders and sign language interpreters from Libya worked with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) to develop more than 200 standard vocabulary terms for election-related processes and procedures in an Arabic Sign Language. The lexicon has been distributed in Deaf schools and interpreting organizations in Libya, as well as other countries in the Middle East and North Africa regions. Support for this project was provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development.
